"In the early hours of Sunday 23rd November, 2003, the Auckland Animal Liberation Front gained entry into a South Auckland battery hen farm on the corner of State Highway 1 and Kingseat Rd, Waiuku.

The ALF entered the securely locked building by smashing a large hole in the side of the wall and then filmed the appalling conditions inside. Cages were tiered from floor to ceiling, and hens on the bottom tier were unable to stand up straight. Most were crammed six to a cage. Large rats were everywhere. A large freezer was found full of mutilated hens.

10 hens were liberated and have been placed in safe, caring homes where they will live out the rest of their natural lives in freedom."
