According to reports in major Spanish newspapers, more than 17,000 mink were released from cages at three fur farms in Galicia (northwest Spain, bordering Portugal).

The biggest raid was in Oza Dos Ríos where 10,500 mink were released. This farm belongs to Charo Carrillo, one of the main furriers in Spain. Between 500-1000 mink were recaptured, the rest remain free. Charo told the media that the raid destroyed 20 years of her research into breeding mink.

Another farm was attacked in Muros, where about 6,000 mink were released. (Read communique from the raid below.)

At a farm in Negreira, 600 mink made their escape. (Read communique from the raid below.)

Media reported that the three raids took place almost simultaneously. Police suspect that the activists who participated in these raids are the same who liberated animals at other farms in Galicia; during one raid in July 2005 thousands of mink escaped, resulting in the closure of the farm.

Communique received by activists in Spain:

"14th of october we carried out an action for Animal Liberation in the farm of the mercenary Jesus Troitiño Rial, in Negreira, were he kept 5000 mink waiting in small cages to be killed and cut open to get their fur by the evil fur industry.

We showed in this way our purpose to fight speciesm in general and our determination to achieve freedom to every animal encaged. Each one of the mink that is running free at this moment is for us a reason of celebration.

Since the beginning we knew that the mass media would attack us with arguments used by the fur industry, but none of these arguments are valid.

First of all every animal who can enjoy freedom should be free, doesnt matter his race, sex or species. No argument can justify the speciest slavery.

There is no such environmental destruction. Mink are animals totally territorial and they spread themselves in the environment to find their own territory. This way they do the work that years ago the European mink were doing, now a days exterminated by the fur industry. This argument can be found in lots of ethology books about this species.

The only environmental terrorism is to let this business keep going. These farms are contaminating the environment with excrement and are destroying the seas fishing to find food for the minks.

The furriers also say that mink are not going to survive in wild; where they are not going to survive is in the cages. No one can escape from them, all finish in a fur coat.

Until the fur industry is disappeared
Until the last mink is free

Communique received by activists in Spain:

"In the hills above the ocean we have totally emptied 7 sheds full of wonderful and harmless animals, who didnt realize that they have fur that some stupid humans dont feel embarrassed to wear.

To help them escape we opened the two doors and put ramps to let them climb the walls surrounding the farm. We took fish and meat from the refrigerator on the farm and put it close to the way out that we made for them, to show them the escape routes.

A tractor has been sabotaged, a hi-fi system that they used to listen to music while skinning the minks was destroyed. This small damage has a meaning: we shouldnt allow anyone enjoyment while abusing animals; no animal abuser should continue their work without facing problems.

Until liberation always!
