HEADLINE: Animal
rights activists free 1,000 animals from mink farm
DATELINE: THIONVILLE,
France
BODY:
Animal rights activists broke into a mink farm in eastern France
and released 1,000 animals from their cages, police said. About
1,000 of the farm's 17,000 animals escaped into the fields on Sunday,
and firefighters and volunteers spent Monday searching for the fleet-footed
animals. They had little success, and officials planned to bring
in a professional trapper, police said.
The owner of
the farm in the town of Bure put his loss at 30,000 euros (about
US$30,000).
